St. Patrick's Day

You might have noticed that I don't have a Valentine's Day post. I had a full day of crafts and fun food projects that we were going to do, but the night before Preston, Elic and I all got that nasty stomach bug (within hours of each other). Not only did that ruin Valentine's Day fun, but we didn't leave our house for the whole week. So to make up for all the fun we missed I made great plans for St. Patrick's Day. We started first thing in the morning with a fun (and highly educational) game called "Pot of Gold". I gave the boys a bucket (closest thing to a pot that I could find) and they had to look all over the house for their pieces of gold. These weren't just any old pieces of gold. Elic's had the numbers 1-10 on them and Preston's had 11-20. The gold could be hidden anywhere in the house.

They found pieces in their room,

camouflaged with their super heroes, and even in the bath tub. Finding the gold was only half the fun. Once they found all the pieces, they had a game board to match the numbers to.

We must have played this six or seven times in a row that morning and when Darren came home they wanted him to play it with them a few more times. We even played some the next day. It really helped Elic start to recognize some numbers and Preston got faster at matching all his numbers every time he played. I loved it- it was fun and they were learning while they played!

Next, we put together some puzzles,

and had a snack with green in it (of course).

Lunch included the four leaf clover.

After nap time, we made a St. Patrick's music maker. We painted, poured beans, and glued to make this fun instrument.

We did sing a few songs about St. Patrick's Day using our instruments, but mostly we just made a lot of noise with them while running through the house.

We ended the fun with some good books. Preston's favorite was the Irish folktale. He had me read it three or four times.

All through out the day we wore our green so that we would be "pinch proof". At the end of the day I did feel like we made up for our lost Valentine's Day. Hopefully some Irish luck will keep us from having that stomach bug again! Happy St. Patrick's Day!
